Some of us spend a lot of our time behind the wheel of our cars, either because we commute a long way from home to work, we may have jobs that require us to be in our cars driving from one place to another, or we may be out and about more than others. By 2014, we will all be required to have personal medical insurance, but if you are in an automobile accident, your medical pay benefits must first be exhausted before you may use your personal medical insurance. The standard medical pay a car insurance company offers is $5,000 but that would not be enough to cover your expenses if you needed to be airlifted, if you required surgery or if you had to stay more than a day or two in the hospital. It would definately be to our benefit to increase the medical pay coverage with the automobile insurance. Let's say you are in an accident by a distracted driver and it was not your fault. Even if the insurance company of the person who hit you accepts the liability, they will not pay one medical bill until you have either gone to court or settled out with them. Here's the real thought about all of this........what if you become paralyzed because of a distracted driver? I personally know someone who has!
